Rega

Paul Darwin of Rega talks of their philosophy and what makes them so great.  Worrying more about how their equipment sounds, not how it measures on an oscilloscope.  Rega aren't into unnecessary frills and extravagant advertising, they believe all the money you spend on your hi-fi should actually go into the hi-fi!

Rega are in the process of updating their product line-up, bringing out stunner after stunner.

The famous RP1, the best turntable for the money in the world.

The RP3, the current incarnation of the Planar 3 which Rega made their name with.

The new RP6.  Taking over from the P5 and considerably better than it.  A really pacey turntable matching perfectly with the Rega Exact cartridge.

The Apollo-R CD player.  Benefiting from the research done for both the award winning Rega DAC and their reference CD player the Rega Isis.

The Brio-R, Rega's entry level integrated amplifier.  A superb and capable amp, that sounds particularly great with the Rega RS3s.

To hear Rega's fine line-up, pop by and have a listen.  A map to our location can be found here.

Your Hi-Fi Needs Chord Cable!

yourhifineedsYou really can't underestimate the importance of having the right speaker cable and interconnects in your system!

The most affordable way to make a potentially significant upgrade to your system.  Cable design has changed massively over the years.  With the advent of wireless technology, switch-mode power supplies and the sheer quantity of electrical appliances in the modern home, the electrical noise bombarding your cables is considerable.  Although a lot of the noise is too high pitched to hear, it all gets into the ground of your equipment which is where most of the electronics get their references from.  What this means is that not only do you get audible noise added to the signals but your amp unwittingly uses noise as a reference!

The Chord Company has been designing and hand-making audiophile cables for a looooooong time.  As well as traditional design values (best quality materials and workmanship) they also build high-frequency screens into their products, effectively blocking the vast majority of the interference.

Their range consists of everything from HDMI cables, through digital and analogue interconnects to speaker cables with a varied choice of terminations.

Spendor A3 A5 A6 and S3/5R2

Now we can officially say we are Cornwall's best Spendor dealer!

We now have in stock a pair of A3, A5, A6 and S3/5R2.  We're hard at work running them in ready to be demo'ed and they're sounding great already.  Dynamic, clean, transparent and most importantly, musical.  They're enjoyable to listen to.

The ultra compact Spendor A3 floor stander delivers clear, natural sound with real low frequency power and scale.  2-way design using Spendor's low Q reflex enclosure design. The 15cm mid-bass drive unit has a magnesium alloy chassis to support the long throw motor system which helps to give these loudspeakers a remarkably big and powerful sound. The fluid cooled 22mm wide-surround tweeter completes the driver array.

The compact Spendor A5 offers exceptional performance relative to its size, it delivers a clear mid-range and big powerful articulate bass that rival designs simply cannot match.  Uses the Spendor linear flow reflex porting meaning it can be placed in relatively close proximity to rear walls with minimum interaction.

The larger (but still not really large) Spendor A6 use more sophisticated drive units giving them greater clarity, resolution, power handling and bass extension than the A5. The ultra rigid cabinet with Spendor's dynamic damping system gives super fast response, whilst high linearity components, silver plated cables and Spendors machined stabiliser system all contribute to the unrivalled sound quality.

Last but not necessarily least, the bookshelf Spendor S3/5R2.  Easy to listen to, easy to place, detailed and genuinely enjoyable speakers from a long line of distinguished mini-monitors.  Derived from the BBC designed LS3/5a which Spendor used to manufacture, the S3/5R2 displays fine technical performance and does its ancestors proud.

If you'd like to give them a listen to make up your own mind, please contact us.

Naim Audio ND5 XS

nd5xs_news-imageNaim has announced the addition of a new slimline network player to its XS Series. Managing Director Paul Stephenson introduced the new addition to a select group of journalists at the Top Audio Show in Milan.

The ND5 XS network player is a network-connected separates source. It offers UPnP streaming up to 24bit/192kHz resolution over the home network, either from network-attached storage or a hard disk player / server, such as Naim's HDX or UnitiServe models. It has an in-built internet radio tuner and features Naim's Choice: a pre-loaded list of Naim's favourite internet radio stations, including an exclusive 320kbps stream from Radio Paradise. It features a front-panel USB socket for digitally-connected iPod, MP3 players and memory sticks and three S/PDIF inputs for connection to external digital sources, such as a CD player. An optional FM/DAB tuner module is also available.

The ND5 XS follows on from the introduction last year of the NDX and has been engineered to integrate into the Naim range at the same performance level as Naim's other XS Series components. The ND5 XS is performance-upgradeable, currently with the addition of an external XPS or 555 PS power supply and / or Naim DAC. A matching slimline power supply will be available next year.

The NDX will also be updated to stream 24bit/192kHZ audio. The update will be available once ND5 XS has commenced shipping, expected in October. More information about this will be provided in due course.
